Start trial.

From your first ride to your first competition. The complete guide to start in Belgium.

01

What exactly is trial?

A balance discipline where you cross obstacles (rocks, logs, slopes) without putting your foot down. No speed, no race: precision and core stability. Exists in moto and bike form.

02

Choose between moto and bike

Bike requires less investment (1500-3000€ for a good trial bike) and no license. Moto is more impressive but requires an FMB license, gear and a starting budget of ~5000€. Many practitioners do both.

03

Find your first club

That's the first step. Go watch a training session, ask if you can try. Practitioners are welcoming. Check the club map for the closest one.

04

Minimal equipment

For moto trial: approved trial helmet, trial boots, gloves, knee pads. An entry-level second-hand moto (Beta, GasGas, Vertigo). For bike: helmet, gloves, knee pads. A trial bike mod 20" or stock 26".

05

FMB license (moto only)

To participate in moto trial competitions, you need a Belgian Motorcyclist Federation license. Different types depending on whether you do competitions or just rides. Your club will help you with the process.
